Still Transient
More or less attack and sustain, on soft and hard hits alike. 0 samples latency.
Also in the Drums & Band bundle
What it does
A transient shaper changes how a sound starts and how it dies away, without a threshold. Attack brings the hit forward (or softens it); Sustain brings out the ring, room and tail (or shortens it).
It follows the sound itself, so a soft ghost note and a rim shot are shaped the same way. Focus narrows the shaping to a range, such as a kick's beater click or a snare's crack, and leaves the rest alone. At 0 / 0 the sound passes untouched.
Key features
- Attack and Sustain, −100 to +100%, with Attack time and Sustain time
- Level-independent: no threshold to set; soft and hard hits shaped alike
- Focus low / high with Listen: shape only the click, crack or body
- Scrolling In / Out / gain view; Mix, Output and a soft Clip guard
Quick start
- Insert on the kick, snare, toms or drum bus.
- Turn Attack up for punch, down to soften; Sustain down for less ring or room.
- For just the click: Focus low 2 kHz, Focus high 8 kHz.
- Keep Clip guard on when you boost Attack a lot.
Controls
| Control | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Attack | −100 to +100% | More (+) or less (−) of each hit. |
| Sustain | −100 to +100% | More or less ring, room and tail. |
| Attack time | 1–50 ms | How long a hit counts as attack. |
| Sustain time | 20–1000 ms | How long a tail counts as sustain. |
| Focus low / high | 20 Hz–5 kHz / 200 Hz–20 kHz | The range that is shaped. |
| Listen focus | on / off | Hear only the focus range. |
| Mix / Output / Clip guard | 0–100% / −24 to +12 dB / on-off | Blend; level; round off peaks. |
FACTORY PRESETS
Kick: more punch · Kick: beater click · Snare: more crack · Snare: less ring · Toms: shorter ring · Drum bus: punch · Overheads: less cymbal wash · Room mics: tighter · Acoustic guitar: pick · Bass: more definition · Snare: fatter · Softer attack
GOOD TO KNOW
Tested: Attack +100% raises the first 5 ms of a hit by 14 dB while the tail moves 0.2 dB, and the same at 30 dB lower level. With no lookahead, the boost starts within about 1 ms of the hit, so a very fast click can slip a little through.
